Le 3ème match de ce premier tour mettait les apprentis de cette Can, le Bénin face aux Supers Eagles du Nigéria conduit par l’emblématique capitaine, le géantissime Okocha Jay-Jay qui promettait une récompense au Béninois s’il parvenait à inscrire un seul but face à lui. Le Bénin perdait 2-0 dans cette belle rencontre. Nous abordons le temps additionnel quand sur une remise en jeu effectué en fond, de toutes ses forces, Emmanuel Souka envoya la balle au point de penalty du Nigéria, Moussa Latoundji surgit pour anticiper la trajectoire de la balle, avec son genou, marque le but du 2-1. Le seul but des Béninois à cette phase finale de la Can Tunisie 2004 qui fait du héros du jour, le premier Béninois à inscrire un but lors d’une phase finale de Can. Ce jour fut pour le public sportif béninois, un instant ancré dans les mémoires. Moussa Latoundji sait aujourd’hui que le Sport prend et donne beaucoup. La seule chose qu’il a en tête, c’est la première image que donneront ses joueurs au public béninois après ce temps de pandémie. Du spectacle, des victoires, il désire retrouver un élan autour de l’équipe du Bénin. Un élan qu’il a connu sur le terrain comme sur le banc et qu’il garde d’ailleurs dans la voix.
