Lors d’une conférence de presse qu’il a animée, le jeudi 16 janvier 2020 à Cotonou, le président de la Fédération béninoise de handball (Fbh), Antoine Bonou, a exposé les ambitions du Comité exécutif qu’il dirigHandball : « Les clubs béninois seront présents à l’international » ; Antoine Bonou e pour le compte de l’année 2020 avant de parler des perspectives.
En effet, au sujet des perspectives de 2020, le président Antoine Bonou annonce le retour en compétition au plan africain et international des clubs béninois. Jadis absent de la scène continentale, le Handball béninois sera à nouveau à l’honneur dès 2020 ; rassure le président. « Je peux vous dire qu’en 2020, les clubs champions du Bénin iront défendre les couleurs du Bénin » ; confirme Antoine Bonou. Il poursuit qu’avec le soutien du ministre des Sports Oswald Homéky, Flowers chez les hommes et Aspac chez les dames seront présents à la Coupe d’Afrique des clubs champions de handball.
Par ailleurs, il estime que le Bénin ne sera pas sur tous les fronts. « Nous ne pouvons poursuivre deux lièvres à la fois » ; prévient Antoine Bonou qui martèle qu’il ne sait à rien d’engager le Bénin dans des compétitions pour lesquelles la Fbh n’est pas certaine d’avoir les résultats ; alors que les ressources financières sont déjà limitées.
Pour Antoine Bonou, «Le chantier est vaste ». En 2020, la Fbh espère renouer avec l’accueil des compétitions en comptant sur la construction des infrastructures par le Gouvernement béninois à travers le programme d’actions. À cela s’ajoute la floraison de la naissance de nouveaux clubs qui viendront rehausser le handball béninois.
