Elle est l’une des pièces maitresse de l’équipe de Basket-ball féminine de l’Association sportive du port autonome de Cotonou (Aspac). Belle, léger sourire, légèrement grosse, pas très élancée, 85Kg, 1m68 elle joue un grand rôle dans le jeu des portuaires. En dehors comme sur le terrain, elle parvient à gérer sa troupe à travers une parfaite communication. Elle, c’est : Marlene Héloïse Yabo Ibilola Somakou. Bénin Sport est allé dans son univers.
Née le 8 juillet 1990 à Porto-Novo, la capitale politique du Bénin, Marlene Héloïse Yabo Ibilola Somakou a vu le jour grâce au couple Luc Remy Somakou de nationalité béninoise et de la Togolaise Opportune Léa. Mère d’une fille, elle n’a pas d’idole et ne veut ressembler à personne. Elle se force son caractère à travers ses sports préférés : le Basket-ball et la Natation et ses loisirs que sont la musique et la cuisine. Même si Marlène n’est pas parfaite, elle aime le Blanc et adore le jus d’ananas et la bière. L’actuelle capitaine de Aspac n’a pas pourtant très vite commencé le Basket-ball. Ce n’est qu’à 12 ans qu’elle intègre S. Falaah de Porto-Novo en 2002 pour sa formation. Son amour, son engagement et sa détermination lui permettent de s’imposer. Elle quitte les juniors et est surclassée sénior compte tenu de sa performance. Une équipe avec laquelle elle gagne ses premiers trophées : Coupe du Bénin et autres.
Plusieurs aventures avant l’Aspac…
Malgré son jeune-âge, Marlène a son petit chemin et sa petite histoire. En 2010, elle abandonne son club formateur pour tenter une nouvelle expérience avec Renaissance Bbc de Cotonou (RBbc) du président Abdul Alex Paraïso, ancien président de la Fédération béninoise de Basket-ball. Avec ses nouvelles coéquipières, Marlène a participé aussi à plusieurs compétions pendant lesquelles elle est nominée meilleure joueuse. Ainsi, après plusieurs échecs à franchir l’étape des phases finales avec la Renaissance Bbc et toujours à la recherche du meilleur, la natif du Zou au Bénin va céder aux avances des dirigeants de la Société béninoise d’énergie électrique (Sbee). Marlène rejoint alors Energie Bbc en 2015. Malheureusement, elle n’a fait qu’une seule saison, mais avec de très belle performance pendant toutes les compétitions jouées et laisse ses empruntes. Après cette petite aventure avec Energie Bbc en 2015, la deux (02) fois cinq majeurs des deux tournois de Isabelle Yacoubou prend carrément le chemin du grand adversaire : Aspac Bbc où elle évolue depuis 2015 jusqu’à ce jour. Avec les portuaires, Marlene Héloïse est sacrée championne du Bénin en 2016 et vaincu lors des finales 2018 et 2019 devant Energie Bbc, ses anciennes amies.
Quelques passages en équipe nationale
Présélectionnée pour la première fois en 2005 puis en 2007, elle va connaitre sa première sélection en 2009 où elle participé à la première édition des Jeux de la Communauté des États sahélo-sahariens (Cen-Sad) à Niamey au Niger. Les Ecureuils avaient terminé 4ème au classement sur huit (08) équipes. Le Bénin a courbé l’échine devant le Niger en match de classement. En juin 2017, elle a participé aux phases éliminatoires de la Coupe d’Afrique des nations à Abidjan en Côte d’Ivoire. En novembre 2019, elle était aussi de l’expédition de la 3ème Coupe d’Afrique des nations de 3*3 du 8 au 10 novembre 2019 à Kampala en Ouganda.
