Vous êtes franco-béninois, pourquoi avoir choisi de défendre les couleurs du pays de votre mère ?
Sourire…. C’est vrai que je suis né en France et que j’ai toujours vécu ici. J’y suis très attaché, mais j’ai toujours voulu connaître mes racines. Je n’ai jamais eu la chance d’aller au Bénin, mais c’est toujours resté dans un coin de ma tête. J’espère y aller un jour, que ce soit en sélection ou en voyage pour découvrir mes racines.
Parlez-nous des coulisses jusqu’à votre convocation ?
La saison dernière j’avais déjà eu des contacts avec le sélectionneur. Il s’était même déplacé à Rodez pour venir me voir jouer et nous avons pu discuter ensemble après un match. J’étais vraiment touché, car rencontrer un sélectionneur, c’était déjà un honneur. Mais le fait qu’il se deplace « pour moi » pour discuter de la sélection, c’était une grande joie. Pendant cette période de confinement, il m’a aussi appelé pour prendre de mes nouvelles. Tous les efforts qu’il a faits « pour moi » m’ont convaincu et m’ont donné envie de me surpasser pour rejoindre la sélection béninoise. Quelques jours avant la liste officielle pour le match amical contre le Gabon, le sélectionneur m’a appelé pour me dire que je ferais partie de la liste; ça a été pour moi une joie immense.

Je suis ravi de rejoindre la sélection et je suis prêt à défendre nos couleurs. Et je voudrais les remercier pour tous leurs messages que j’ai reçus sur les différents réseaux sociaux.
