Né le 8 janvier 1962 à Bingerville, Sory Diabaté, premier vice-président de la Fédération ivoirienne de football (Fif) et président de la Ligue de football professionnel depuis 2007 à ce jour, est candidat à la présidence de la Fif. Il se positionne comme un adversaire de taille pour le candidat Didier Drogba. Le numéro 2 de cette institution a décidé de prendre le taureau par les cornes, depuis le départ de Sidy Diallo qui ne souhaite pas briguer un troisième mandat à la tête de l’instance dirigeante du football en Côte d’Ivoire.
Ancien joueur de l’Association sportive des employés de commerce (Asec) Mimosas (1981-1982), Sory Diabaté connait bien la maison Fif. Instructeur Fifa de 2007 à 2017, Sory Diabaté est l’ancien Trésorier général adjoint (février à décembre 2002), ancien Secrétaire général (2003-2007), ancien 4ème Vice-président (2007-2011) et actuel 1er Vice-président depuis 2011, Sory Diabaté est aussi président de la Commission technique et développement et président de la Commission des sélections nationales de la Fédération ivoirine de football.
En effet, cette candidature fait grand bruit dans le milieu du football ivoirien. Sory Diabaté a réellement le soutien total et franc de Augustin Sidy Diallo, qu’il a rejoint en 2011 à la tête de la Fif à Abidjan-Treichville et de Jacques Anouma (ex-président de la Fif) avec qui, il a également collaboré. Mieux, la candidature de Sory Diabaté a la caution d’une grande majorité de clubs qui ont d’ailleurs exigé sa présence à la tête de la Fif. Sory est donc un adversaire de taille pour Didier Drogba qui vient d’arriver dans le système malgré sa belle carrière. Le rendez-vous est alors pris pour les travaux de l’Assemblée générale élective.
